Meet our 2025 ANU Alumni Awards Finalists

Each year, the ANU Alumni Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of our most remarkable alumni. This year, our 2025 Alum of the Year award finalists are shining examples of leaders in the areas of global humanitarian work, peace mediation, and human rights law.

Ian Wishart (BSc '80)

Ian Wishart is a transformative leader in international humanitarian development, currently serving as CEO of The Fred Hollows Foundation. Guiding operations across 30 countries, Ian has been key to advancing the foundation’s mission to restore sight for disadvantaged communities.

He has held leadership roles at Plan International and World Vision Australia, championing child rights and expanding vital aid programs. An ANU science graduate, Ian has spearheaded critical emergency relief efforts in Ethiopia, Cambodia, South Sudan, Rwanda, and Indonesia – including during the devastating Boxing Day tsunami. Recognised for his impact, Ian has been appointed a Knight Commander in Cambodia for social work, highlighting his dedication to global development and aid.

Paul Dziatkowiec (MIntLaw '05)

Paul Dziatkowiec is a global leader in conflict mediation, and currently Director of Mediation and Peace Support at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. With nearly 25 years of experience in diplomacy and mediation in armed conflicts, Paul has led peace initiatives across Ukraine, the Middle East, Caucasus, Asia, and Africa. A former Australian diplomat, he played pivotal roles in multilateral negotiations and peacebuilding efforts, including in Bougainville, earning an Australian Service Medal. An alumnus of International Law, Paul is a humanitarian, a mentor and an educator, shaping future leaders while contributing to global peace through diplomacy and mediation.

Jennifer Robinson (BAsSt/LLB (Hons) '06)

Jennifer Robinson is an award-winning human rights barrister at Doughty Street Chambers in London, acclaimed for her expertise in media, international, and human rights law. Jennifer has been involved in some of the most significant human rights cases of the past decade, including before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the recent advisory proceedings on states’ obligations in respect of climate change and human rights. She is renowned for her work as counsel for Julian Assange, successfully securing his release earlier this year after a 14-year legal struggle. An accomplished author, mentor, and speaker, Jennifer remains connected to ANU through her profound commitment to justice and empowering future legal leaders.
