Women’s Alumni Network launched during ANU Alumni Weekend
The launch of the ANU Women’s Alumni Network attracted a full-capacity crowd to the new auditorium at the Kambri Cultural Precinct.
A panel discussion on “Women Overcoming Obstacles” included the Honourable Susan Ryan AO, Professor Genevieve Bell and Magistrate Louise Taylor, and was moderated by the Co-Founder of Intelledox, Michelle Melbourne. Each panelist reflected on the unique obstacles they had encountered and their take on the world.
The Vice-Chancellor of ANU, Professor Brian Schmidt, spoke about the University’s commitment to achieving gender equality and the significance of the 26 weeks of parental leave introduced at ANU in helping to break down gender roles and improve support of ANU staff. He said the fight for gender equality was “something to take to the forefront and not just something to ruminate about”.
The three network Co-Founders, Monica Dalton, Masaba Gofran and Josephine Janssen, established the network to connect, support and empower women alumni by providing opportunities for sharing and learning from each other, as well as reconnecting with the University and its students.
The network’s next event is a two-part Women Wise Series in collaboration with Dixon Advisory consisting of two seminars on how to manage funds, super and investment on 4 and 18 June. If you are interested in attending, please register by emailing womensalumni.network@anu.edu.au.
