Benjamin Gill
We planted the seed for the ANUOK app, got funding and developed it all within 12 months, which is very fast for ANU.
Ben Gill is a passionate champion for wellbeing on the University campus and has consistently advocated in areas such as mental health, LGBTIQ rights and non-residential student engagement.
He has been an excellent mentor and has been described as an exceptional leader and a beacon of positivity on campus.
Ben has had a range of experiences over the past few years. He went to Peru in 2011 to teach English and other subjects in a rural primary school.
In 2014, Ben successfully juggled his studies and volunteered in a myriad of organisations, making it a very busy year.
Later he coordinated the Get Up & Go program managed by the ANU Counselling Centre, a peer support walking program to increase the wellbeing and mental health of students.
He was also ANU Queer Officer, an elected student representative whose role is to further the interests of Queer-identifying students at ANU.
In 2015 and 2016, he was President of the Australian National University Students' Association (ANUSA).
Ben helped make the University a safer place to work and study with the introduction of the ANUOK app.
He was a key driving force in hosting a very successful mental health round table with high-profile national speakers.
Ben represented ANU at the International Association for Youth Mental Health (IAYMH) held in Montreal, Canada as a youth delegate and chaired a number of sessions.
He wrote his Engineering Honours thesis on the design of smart-phone applications as a tool to improve the efficiency of the youth mental health sector. He graduated in 2016.
