How did your studies at ANU shape your career?
The knowledge I gained through my studies at ANU has definitely helped me to build up technical skills, however, most importantly I became more outspoken. Through participation in various sorts of extracurricular activities such as leadership development, cultural exchange and academic mentoring, I found more confidence in myself while obtaining soft skills.
Tell us about your career since graduation?
Right now I work in Deutsche Bank Hong Kong as a credit analyst in Leveraged Debt Capital Markets. We provide debt products within the bank for corporate needs such as M&A, leveraged buyout and project finance across Asia Pacific.
Key to success?
My senior analyst has been coaching me continuously ever since I joined the team. Hard work has paid off for me with my first hands-on corporate loan transaction obtaining credit approval within a strict timeframe.
Career aspirations?
I hope I can be more international. Nothing can really stop the pace of globalisation and thus people with international and diverse backgrounds are in great demand. I have started to realise this ever since I came to Australia. I also found people with international backgrounds more adaptable to and appreciative of different cultures. This is a trend in the 21st century and I don't want to miss it.
Career advice?
My general advice is take the initiative and seize opportunities yourself. Never stop thinking because the very first step in your career is to decide what type of job you're really into or passionate about, and then be open-minded. Look for international companies operating across Asia-Pacific region as they are more willing to accept students with overseas education background and may probably sponsor for your visa application.
Once you start working, keep a balanced life - hanging out with friends, watching a movie, pursuing a new hobby and most importantly don't forget to stay happy.
