Peter van Onselen will be in conversation with Mark Kenny on Peter's new book with Wayne Errington, Victory: The Inside Story of Labor's Return to Power.

Anthony Albanese's 2022 election victory was the most consequential in decades. As well as ending a 'lost decade' of conservative rule and bringing Labor into Federal power for the first time since 2013, it ushered in a new force in politics. The victory of the teal independents has changed both the face of the parliament and decimated the Liberal Party. Women candidates and voters had their voices heard across the political spectrum.

Victory for Labor has been resounding and sweet, but it comes with caveats. Both major parties now have to look over their shoulders at the minor parties and independent challengers. Yet the next three years are full of possibility.

Victory goes inside the campaigns of all the players in the 2022 election to reveal how Labor orchestrated its remarkable win. Will Albanese govern as the careful reformer of the campaign or will this socially progressive leader recapture Australia's lost egalitarianism?

Peter van Onselen is an Australian political academic, author, journalist and commentator. He is Network Ten's political editor, contributing editor at The Australian newspaper and professor of politics and public policy at The University of Western Australia. Between 2010 and 2017, he hosted daily programs at Sky News Australia. He also appears regularly on ABC Insiders. Peter is the author or editor of nine books including an award-winning biography of John Howard.

Mark Kenny is Professor at the Australian Studies Institute at ANU, an appointment following a high-profile journalistic career culminating in six years as chief political correspondent and national affairs editor of The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, and The Canberra Times. He hosts the popular ANU podcast Democracy Sausage and is a regular on the ABC's Insiders program, Sky News Agenda, and radio programs across the country.

This event is in association with Harry Hartog Bookshop. Books will be available for purchase on the evening in the Cultural Centre foyer. Pre-event book signings will be available from 5.30pm, and available again after the event.
