Ross Garnaut will be in conversation with Frank Jotzo, Ligang Song and Meghan Quinn on TheSuperpower Transformation: Building Australia's Zero-Carbon Future, which documents how Australia can become a leader in a world of zero net emissions.

In his previous bestselling book, Superpower, Ross Garnaut showed that Australia - rich in resources for renewable energy and for capturing carbon in the landscape - could become an economic superpower of the post-carbon world. Now, in The Superpower Transformation, Garnaut turns that idea into a practical up-to-date plan to reshape our nation.

TheSuperpower Transformation brings together a collection of essays from leading experts, Mike Sandiford, Ligang Song, Frank Jotzo, Isabelle Grant, Susannah Powell and Malte Meinshausen, as well as a major essay from Garnaut, who has edited the book. It outlines the future decarbonisation of Australia including: net zero opportunity for Australian minerals; the decarbonisation of electricity; green hydrogen and its role in transforming our export industries; decarbonising China's steel industry; land carbon and agriculture and the Renaissance of rural and regional Australia.

Over the past nine years, Australia has consistently acted against its national interest. The Superpower Transformation shows how to change that, so that the nation becomes a confident leader of progress towards zero net emissions.

Ross Garnaut, AC is Professorial Research Fellow in Economics at the University of Melbourne. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Sciences and a Distinguished Fellow of the Economic Society of Australia. He was principal economic adviser to Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke and Australian Ambassador to China (1985-88). In 2008, he produced the Garnaut Climate Change Review for the Australian government and a follow-up review in 2011. He is the author of many books, including the bestselling Dog Days, Superpower and Reset.

Frank Jotzo is Professor of environmental economics and climate change economics at the ANU Crawford School of Public Policy, where he directs the Centre for Climate and Energy Policy. He is also Head of Energy with the ANU Institute for Climate, Energy and Disaster Solutions and director of the ANU Zero-Carbon Energy for Asia-Pacific grand challenge initiative.

Ligang Song, Professor of Economics at the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics , Crawford School of Public Policy, is Director of China Economy Program in the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific and convenes the annual ANU China Update.

Meghan Quinn PSM is Secretary, Department of Industry, Science and Resources. She previously had a number of senior public service roles, including as Deputy Secretary of the Markets Group, and the Macroeconomic Group. Meghan was also central to the preparation of the Australia in the Asian Century White Paper in 2012.
