Since the commencement of Semester 2, there has been an increase in vehicle related injuries and deaths of local wildlife, mainly ducks. Please slow down, stay alert, and watch for wildlife crossing, especially near wetlands and waterways, and during wet weather. 

With spring approaching, ducks are nesting, and ducklings will soon be on campus. Please give way when needed. If you are involved in or witness a wildlife collision, please contact Facilities and Services by emailing Fs.director@anu.edu.au or fixmycampus.fs@anu.edu.au.

To honour the 90th birthday of Dr Larry Sitsky the ANU School of Music invites the ANU community to celebrate his remarkable legacy as a composer, pianist, scholar, and teacher with nearly 60 years as part of the ANU School of Music. This event will feature performances of Dr Stitsky‘s latest piano miniatures and chamber works, along with the presentation of a new biography.

The concept of national interest has become a source of global insecurity due to governments routinely using term ‘national interest’ to justify politics of violence, secrecy and exclusion and avoid questions of morality and justice. In this lecture hosted by the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs, speaker Van Jackson will argue that addressing the contractions of national interest is a start point for constructing more durable forms of security.

Thursday 29 August, 8-9.30am

Speaker Lina Benabdallah and discussant Manjeet S. Pardesi will explore contrasting Chinese state narratives of the New Silk Road in two contexts, Beijing’s relations with East Africa and Central Asia from a political nostalgia lens. This seminar hosted by the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs will also consider how these narratives influence contemporary geopolitics and cultural identities.

Yesterday, Senator Penny Wong - Minister for Foreign Affairs, delivered the inaugural ANU Centre for Asian-Australian Leadership (CAAL) annual lecture. In her address, Minister Wong discussed Australia’s relationship with Asia and the role of Asian-Australians in supporting Australia’s engagement with the region. 

The annual CAAL lecture features an influential Asian-Australian leader to present a topic of importance to Australia’s national interest.

Senior Research Fellow at the Australian National University, Dr Bjorn Sturmberg has been named the 2024 ACT Scientist of the Year for his work to accelerate the ACT’s transition to becoming a zero emissions economy.  

Working at the University’s Battery Storage and Grid Integration Program, Sturmberg’s research focuses on the crucial role electric vehicles and batteries could play in powering our electricity grid into the future.

The Migrant Justice Institute is seeking feedback from international students working part-time in Australia on their experiences at work. We encourage working international students to participate in this important survey to share how you have been treated at work. Your answers will help researchers recommend improvements to Australian laws and policies to ensure that all temporary migrants experiences safe and fair working conditions.

The BOA boasts more than five million primary source records, covering over five hundred years of history. This is a major investment in humanities subjects and gives students and researchers access to millions of valuable primary source materials dating back as far as the sixteenth century.

Meet the author – Nina Jankowicz and Van Badham

Nina Jankowicz, American disinformation expert and author and Van Badham, activist, playwright and author will be in conversation with Andrew Leigh to discuss their new book How to Lose the Information War. Unpacking conspiracy theories, online misogyny, and disinformation's effect on democracy, Jankowicz and Badham will give a global perspective on a challenge that affects us all and empower audiences with tools they can use in their daily lives to address it.
