In 2023, ANU commissioned the UNSW’s Gendered Violence Research Network to undertake an independent review of the ANU Sexual Violence Prevention Strategy (SVPS.) The review, led by Professor Jan Breckenridge, involved assessing the University's actions to prevent and respond to sexual violence, as well as conducting several focus groups with students and staff to inform future action plans.

The review resulted in 14 recommendations, all of which have been endorsed by the University. These recommendations span across increasing and formalising student engagement, ensuring an intersectional lens is applied, early intervention initiatives for perpetrators and those at risk of perpetrating, as well as expanding on a range of existing initiatives. Recommendations related to students will be implemented through the Student Safety and Wellbeing Plan 2024–2026, while those related to staff will be addressed by People and Culture.

Our unwavering commitment to preventing gender-based violence and other harmful behaviours, as well as to providing trauma-informed and person-centered responses to disclosures and complaints, is demonstrated through the actions outlined in our Student Safety and Wellbeing Plan 2024–2026.

How should states prioritize and address multiple crises such as climate change, global disease, and humanitarian emergencies? With limited resources, states must navigate material and political constraints when tackling these challenges. Prioritizing Global Responsibilities answers this question by proposing a two-level account of just prioritization that aims to be both philosophically sound and practically relevant. 

This event is part of a series celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Department of International Relations, located within the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs at ANU.

Join Professor Sinclair Dinnen from ANU as he explores how Pacific communities, especially in areas with limited state presence, develop local governance. Drawing on history and current research, he highlights the importance of these grassroots efforts for state and nation-building in Melanesia.

As the 2024 Immersia Festival enters its second week, we invite you to enjoy the rest of the festival, featuring a range of events. Get competitive with our Asia-Pacific Games night at the Hancock edition of the games, which will also feature the ANU Jazz Society. Have a go at playing Japanese Karuta at the Mongolian ger, catch the ANU ZA Kabuki club in action at an open rehearsal, or enjoy a special Indonesian cultural showcase at the Indonesian Embassy.

2024 Immersia will conclude its festivities on 23 September on Malaysia Day, with the Malaysian Jom! Festival. The festivals with jointly celebrate their close with a two-hour segment featuring music and dance, as well as guest speakers.

The University has commissioned an independent Review of matters of gender and culture in the John Curtin School of Medical Research, the School of Medicine and Psychology, and the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health, within the ANU College of Health and Medicine (CHM). The Review will be undertaken by Professor Christine Nixon.  
  
Professor Nixon’s Review will consider issues including gender composition, gender inequality, gender-based harassment, and recruitment practices. The Final Report will include recommendations on operational matters and strategic considerations, and recommendations for future practices to support improved culture, including in relation to gender, inclusion and equity.
