ANU 80th Anniversary Trivia

Congratulations to our recent trivia winners, staff member Sandra Jestin and student Mengjie Xiang. Please contact ANU Corporate Communications to collect your prize. Further congratulations to everyone who has submitted correct answers:

  • In what year was ANU established? 1946.
  • What is the name of the student accommodation inaugurated in 2019? Wamburun Hall.
  • Which day in 1974 did Toad Hall open its doors? 1 April.
  • When did Mount Stromlo Observatory become part of ANU? 1957.

Along with weekly answers, we’ll also share bonus trivia. For example, Mount Stromlo officially became part of ANU on 2 January 1957, when it was established as the Department of Astronomy within the Research School of Physical Sciences. The transition wasn’t entirely smooth. An earlier move in 1953 faced resistance, before the transfer was finalised under Director Bart Bok with the support of Prime Minister Robert Menzies.

This week’s trivia question is: When was ANU ranked as the second greenest university campus in Australia?
