Minimising hazards in the workplace

A notifiable incident has recently occurred on the ANU Acton campus, whereby a staff member received an electrical shock after coming into contact with exposed wires from a personal laptop charger brought into the workplace.

Respectful Relationships Summit

On Friday 31 July, the ANU community participated in a Respectful Relationships Summit. At the conclusion of the event, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged anyone with ideas on how to achieve the objectives of the Sexual Violence Prevention Strategy to email respect@anu.edu.au.

💡 Campus hacks, helpful info and latest updates

ITS writes regular updates through its Knowledge Base resource. Stay up to date on all things VPNs, software and internet access.

The University lodged its annual public report with the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA). You can access the public report on the ANU intranet via the Statistics and Reports page. You are encouraged to provide feedback on the report by emailing staffdiversity@anu.edu.au.

Students are under additional strain this year and may reach out to teaching staff for wellbeing guidance. You can access a digital and shareable handout/reference sheet to help provide guidance to students.

The Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT) would like to hear your feedback on the Teaching Remotely Wattle site. This site was put together to assist those moving off campus with teaching remotely during the COVID outbreak. We would love to hear about your experience and use of the site and to hear about the resources you found helpful.

The Human Resources Division has developed a new Supervisor's Toolkit SharePoint site which is now available to all staff. In this toolkit, you will find resources on a range of useful topics as well as some curated recommendations for LinkedIn Learning courses.

The 2020 Academic Promotions round closes on Friday 14 August. You can access more information and watch a recording of the information session.

Where I Stand is a stirring photographic exhibition from six iconic Australian artists. Presented by Kambri at ANU and aMBUSH Gallery, these 24 intensely personal works take viewers into realms of transformation, rebirth, identity, history, nature, connection and the Dreamtime.

Paddy Manning will be in conversation with Dr Helen Haines MP on Paddy's new book Body Count. How Climate Change is Killing Us.

Join colleagues from agriculture, fisheries, forestry, government, rural RDC's, research centres, commercial service providers and universities to discuss the future of satellite technology and co-design an Industry Issues report for AgriFutures Australia.

Research and development is underway to develop sophisticated ways to ‘evolve the grid’ to allow for increasing amounts of solar PV, battery storage and electric vehicles to participate in the electricity system. Hear our best and brightest researchers and industry partners discuss the latest capabilities being developed.

 

💖 Wholesome news

National Student Volunteer Week (10-16 August) is an opportunity to celebrate our student volunteers and encourage engagement across the community.

Researchers from The Australian National University (ANU) are calling on adults whose primary language is English, Turkish, Arabic or Persian to contribute to a  book about bushfire smoke and health.

An ANU PhD researcher whose work on mental health has helped more than 6,000 people has been recognised as the 2020 Young Canberra Citizen of the Year.
