Start-ups, scholarships and climate change: the 2020 State of the University

In her first official ANU appearance as Chancellor, The Hon Julie Bishop shared the stage of Llewellyn Hall with Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt where they talked about the University’s goals for the year ahead and made a few announcements.

Coronavirus update

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Grady Venville will be hosting open staff forums this Wednesday, 12 February, to talk about the impact of the coronavirus travel restrictions on the University. University House update

Following the hail storm of 20 January, University House will remain closed into the foreseeable future due to the weekend’s rainfall which has caused further damage to the building.

Alongside her recent recognition in the Australia Day Honours, Distinguished Professor Genevieve Bell has been named the world’s inaugural Engelbart Distinguished Fellow for her work in technology, AI and culture.

New scholarship to bring Indigenous Australians to ANU

The University has launched a new scholarship program and endowment for Indigenous Australians that will allow them to unlock opportunities through an ANU education.

Media training for academic staff

Did you know that speaking to the public, via the media, means you’ll not only gain stardom (and a growing fan base), but your research will gain more exposure with government and industry? ANU runs media training for our academic staff who would like to develop the skills to do media interviews.

The University is holding a series of community engagement sessions to develop an action plan to roll out the ANU Sexual Violence Prevention Strategy.

The draft of the University’s Reconciliation Action Plan for 2020-2021 is open for feedback. Have your say before 28 February, 2020.

This year’s Order of Australia lecture, on Wednesday 4 March, will be delivered by Admiral (Ret) Chris Barrie, who argues that continuously reviewing the system for Australian honours will ensure it remains up-to-date with a modern Australia.
