The rundown - what you need to know
|
- ANU will complete the full transition to pre-pandemic modes of study in 2023. Students who may currently be studying remotely offshore are encouraged to make arrangements to travel to campus as soon as possible in the new year. Please read the update and FAQs for more information.
- Enterprise bargaining discussions have commenced. For the latest updates on the negotiations, please read the ANU Enterprise Bargaining webpage.
- Important Web and Brand Compliance Updates have been released for action by web, marketing and communications staff. These include new Web Publishing Guidelines and updates to the official ANU Web Footer for action by 13 January 2023.
- The ANU Library has signed new Read and Publish agreements with Elsevier, Taylor & Francis, SAGE, IOPP and AIPP.
- 24/7 support during the holidays
The holiday shutdown period can be a challenging time for some members of our community. Telephone support (1800 808 374) will continue to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, during the break, including on public holidays, and we encourage you to access this service if you need to.

Services' fun fact for the week As of September 2022 the Facilities & Services Soil Yard had generated 514m3 of compost. That is about 3,000 bathtubs.

Returning home
|
After a three-year term at ANU, Professor Ian Anderson AO, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student and University Experience), is heading home to Tasmania.
A Palawa man, Ian is returning to his home state of lutruwita (Tasmania) to take on the role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of Tasmania. |

One lesson in grade 10 inspired Jessen’s choice of major
|
Jessen Catalano was inspired to pursue a history major following a particularly moving lesson in high school.
He is graduating this week with a Bachelor of Arts from the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences. We spoke to him about his time at ANU and how he navigated the unique challenge of distance learning from regional North Queensland (pictured) through the height of COVID restrictions.

Making her mark
|
ANU Professor of Health Equity, Sharon Friel (pictured), is making her mark in interdisciplinary studies. In October 2022, Sharon was elected to the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences. “It’s an honour to be recognised by my peers for the work I’m doing,” Sharon said. Sharon is also a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, Sharon’s research explores the intersection between policy, environment, health and society. |

FREE concert this Wednesday 14 December in Kambri at ANU to celebrate First Nations songman Dr Kev Carmody, who will be awarded an ANU Honorary Doctorate, headlined by award-winning duo Electric Fields, featuring other First Nations musicians including Alinta Barlow, Jye Cole Hopkins, Dale Huddleston & the Djinama Yilaga Choir. Future of Education at ANU Symposium (Save the Date)

Wednesday 8 February, 9am–5pm Hosted by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), the inaugural Future of Education at ANU Symposium will focus on practice and ideas arising out of ANU-wide student education and experience initiatives, including the ANU Undergraduate Curriculum Framework, Graduate Attributes, Teaching and Learning Strategy and ANU by 2025. New student accommodation to open in 2023
|
The newest residence on campus will be open for students for the start of first semester next year.
Construction is complete on the 731-bed student accommodation, which will be the University’s largest residence to date and bring the total number of on-campus beds at the ANU Acton campus to just over 6,400.
The new accommodation will be named Yukeembruk (phonetic pronunciation ‘yu-kum-bruuk’) and the adjoining laneway, Maliyan Lane. These names were gifted following consultation with Ngambri/Ngurmal (Walgalu), Wallaballooa (Ngunnawal), Wiradyuri (Erambie) custodian, Paul Girrawah House, and Professor Aunty Anne Martin, Director of the ANU Tjabal Indigenous Higher Education Centre. |

ANU Undergraduate Curriculum Framework
|
The ANU Undergraduate Curriculum Framework was approved by Academic Board on 29 November 2022.
The Framework enables a holistic approach to embedding the ANU Graduate Attributes in undergraduate degrees from 2025, providing an exciting point of difference for future students and a strong sense of identity for ANU graduates. |

Celebrating excellence

Sir Roland Wilson and Pat Turner scholars have been recognised for their contribution to strengthening links between academia and public policy.
The Sir Roland Wilson Foundation’s annual prizes celebrate scholar excellence over the past year.

Passwordless End of Beta Testing
|
Starting in January 2023, ANU Passwordless will be the default option for all users in Microsoft 365 and Single Sign-On (SSO). Enrolment in Passwordless will still be optional for now and you will be able to still use the traditional method of username and password next year.
Over 10,000 ANU staff and students have made the move to passwordless. If you haven’t opt-in for Passwordless yet, you are encouraged to do so.

Have you completed your end of year checklist?
|
Before we sign off for the year, don't forget to:
- clean out the fridge and remove perishable items from the kitchen;
- take home any personal items from your office or locker;
- turn off computers and other electronics at the wall and turn off the lights to save power;
- ensure windows and doors are closed and locked;
- set up an out-of-office notice on your email and voicemail.
Some final reminders...
- The final date to submit invoices for goods and services received this year is Friday 16 December. Invoices are to be submitted to invoice.workflow@anu.edu.au. For any enquiries, please contact the Finance Client Services team via email financial.shared.services@anu.edu.au or phone 02 6125 4777.
- Please acquit and approve purchase card expenses by Friday 23 December to ensure the expenditure is properly recorded this year.
