ANU abroad in 2019 – highlights from NALO

The University’s North America Liaison Office, based in Washington, DC, has had a busy year. In a nutshell, they’ve moved, they hosted a School of Art & Design exhibition, they helped launch InSpace and have been busy strengthening the University’s partnerships with several US institutions.

Raising awareness of mercury pollution

Dr Larissa Schneider was a finalist at the recent Vice-Chancellor’s Annual Gala Awards in the category of ‘Impact and Engagement’ for her work in raising awareness of the risks associated with mercury pollution.

To celebrate graduation week, we’ve put together a special page that we’ll update with stories from the colleges as the graduation ceremonies happen.

You may have seen that ANU has been providing lots of information and advice via social media over the past 12 days around combatting gender-based violence against women and girls. So what are some things we suggest to ensure everyone is safe on campus?

The ANU Postgraduate and Research Students’ Association recently hosted a party to celebrate LGBTIQ+ members of our community.

The ANU Public Policy and Societal Impact Hub recently hosted its second Policy Masterclass of the year with more than 70 ANU academics and professional staff attending to hear from a panel of experts from ANU and government.

Students and staff have made 1,975 donations of blood in 2019 to the local chapter of the Australian Red Cross.

ANU has been awarded a special medal from Indiana University made from old bells salvaged from the university’s Bloomington campus.

Seven of our students have won New Colombo Plan scholarships in the latest round of the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan scholarship program. They join a growing list of ANU students who have gained valuable overseas experience as part of their university studies.

Disaster resilience in an ageing society: Lessons from the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami; public lecture, 12.30-1.30pm Wednesday 11 December.
