This week it was announced that Professor Maryanne Dever, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education and Digital) has accepted a position as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) at Western Sydney University. 

Maryanne arrived at ANU in April 2021, a challenging time during the pandemic, and has achieved a great deal since then. Throughout her exceptional leadership, Maryanne has led the delivery of a world class timetabling system, the approval of the University’s first Learning and Teaching Strategy, and recently, great progress on securing approval of a $32m business case for a new digital ecosystem that will transform our approach to learning and teaching.  

We are most grateful for her uncompromising commitment to excellence at ANU. 

“Maryanne will be an outstanding DVC (Education) and I look forward to seeing all she is able to achieve at Western Sydney,” says Professor Grady Venville, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).

The Australian National Centre for Latin American Studies (ANCLAS) is thrilled to endorse the ANU Latin American Students Association's (LASA) inaugural "Latin America Week" happening from 18-24 September 2023. This event features a wide array of activities, spanning language, cinema, dance, football, Latin American studies, and comparative studies on Indigenous issues between Australia and Latin America. It offers a unique opportunity for students, faculty, and the public to gain insight into Latin American history, politics, culture, and lifestyle, as well as the research experiences of ANU scholars in this field. Latin America Week is proudly supported by the Latin American Embassies in Canberra.

Bi Visibility Day is observed annually on 23 September to recognise and celebrate bisexual people, the bisexual community and the history of bisexuality. 

At ANU, the LGBTIQA+ Ally Network is made up of a group of staff and students across campus who are committed to providing an inclusive and respectful environment for people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and asexual (LGBTIQA+).

LGBTQIA+ Ally Training 
Thursday 12 October, 10am-12pm 

LGBTIQA+ Ally Training is offered as part of the University's commitment to providing a diverse and inclusive campus where all people can safely work and study free of harassment or discrimination. 

This 90-minute training session will provide participants with knowledge and skills to create an inclusive culture for all LGBTIQA+ staff members and be an effective Ally within the ANU community.

ANU students now have a fantastic opportunity through a collaboration between ANU, Study Canberra, and Practera. The Study Australia Industry Experience Program (SAIEP) offers a two-week real-world work experience, happening from 25 September to 8 October, 2023. This virtual program connects international and domestic tertiary students from Australian institutions, forming multidisciplinary teams to tackle real industry projects for renowned organizations. 

Originally, ANU Careers and Employability promoted 60 spots, but thanks to Study Canberra's support, we've expanded to accommodate all 108 students who applied.

Professors Diana and Nikolas Rose examine a number of approaches that propose new models for psychiatric theory and practices; in the way that they incorporate ‘social’ dimensions, in the way they involve ‘communities’ in treatment, in the ways that they engage mental health service users, and in the ways that they try to shift the power relations within the psychiatric encounter. Students won’t be able to print from student printers at the library, labs or dorms for the duration of an outage scheduled for Monday 25 September from 9am-5pm.This will impact the IC Printing Service, student printing in libraries, labs and dorms

New Read and Publish Agreements with Oxford and Cambridge University Presses 

The ANU Library has agreements with publishers of hundreds of academic journals, allowing ANU authors to publish articles via open access without paying processing charges. Recent agreements are with John Benjamins publishing, Cambridge University Press, and Oxford University Press. Increase the impact and engagement with your articles across the world.

Changes to Expense Reimbursement claims 

From Friday 6 October, there will be a change in how expense reimbursement claims will be processed for individuals with university IDs.  This includes all staff and students, as well as VaHAs. 

For all individuals with university IDs, you will no longer be required to download and complete a manual form for expense reimbursement.  Instead, expense reimbursement claims are moving to a self-service automated portal, where the user can complete the claim details online and submit to the appropriate financial delegate for approval.
