Last chance to attend the Voice: A Dialogue for Students

Wednesday 2 August, 5-6.30pm

Join us tomorrow at Llewellyn Hall for a special event designed for students and people interested in learning more about the upcoming Voice referendum.

Our panel, which includes Professor Megan Davis, Senator Jana Stewart, Senator Andrew Bragg, Dean Parkin and Sally Scales, will cover the key issues and points of contention relating to the Voice and respond directly to questions from students.

We hope to facilitate a vibrant, inclusive and respectful public discussion covering off on the tough questions that students from around Australia want to ask.

This is a unique and important opportunity to hear from our national student body as our nation prepares for one of the most crucial referendums in our history.

The event will also be livestreamed, and you can join the discussion on social media using the hashtag #VoiceToParliament

World Breastfeeding Week Message from Equity and Belonging

Did you know we have many parenting rooms across our ANU campuses? While ANU welcomes breastfeeding across campus, these parenting facilities offer a private and quiet space to attend to breastfeed or express milk, as well as providing change table facilities for attending to infants and toddlers.

Read more on our supportive breastfeeding policy and the breastfeeding procedure that includes a list of parenting facilities at the Acton and Mt Stromlo campuses.

Returning from parental leave can be a challenging time, and many parents are juggling work with feeding their baby breastmilk. In the coming months ANU is finalising the work to become accredited as a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace by the Australian Breastfeeding Association. If you have any suggestions, please email belonging@anu.edu.au

The theme for this year’s global awareness-raising campaign is Enabling breastfeeding - making a difference for working parents, you can find more information on the Australian Breastfeeding Association’s website

Student safety and wellbeing

As we commence Semester 2 2023, we continue our ongoing commitment to fostering a culture where individuals feel safe, respected and empowered in their academic pursuits at ANU.

We’ve recently updated the Student Safety and Wellbeing Plan which highlights our collective progress in the critical area of sexual violence prevention and response over the last year.  We thank everyone involved in this plan and those who are committed to improving student safety on our campus.

We are also excited to announce that ANU will partner with the Gendered Violence Research Network (UNSW) to undertake a mid-review of our Sexual Violence Prevention Strategy and will lend their expertise towards our next Student Safety and Wellbeing Plan (2024-2025). Led by Professor Jan Breckenridge, the team from the Gendered Violence Research Network will work closely with students, staff and the wider ANU community to ensure our next plan builds on previous work while embedding best practice.

While we acknowledge our achievements to date, there is much work to be done. We must remain proactive and work together to create environments where individuals feel safe, respected, and empowered in their academic pursuits.

The ANU fully supports the Student Union’s action today.  Together, we are committed to building an inclusive community ready and willing to enact meaningful changes that will make our university a safer and more supportive environment for all.
