With End of Financial Year 2022-2023 fast approaching, did you know that the ANU Tax Clinic provides free and confidential tax assistance to taxpayers?

The ANU Tax Clinic assists taxpayers in understanding their tax affairs and meeting their tax obligations. The friendly, student-led clinic provides you with information and guidance under the supervision of experienced tax practitioners. It is a requirement that clients don't have an existing tax agent.

Appointments are available in-person or via phone and videoconferencing. 

All assistance provided by the ANU Tax Clinic is FREE and CONFIDENTIAL.

Tuesday 20 June marks World Refugee Day.  

Join us in marking the significance of World Refugee Day as we shine a light on Pouya, an inspiring ANU student who shares his story. 

My name is Pouya Jacob Saeedian. I am an Iranian refugee and a scholarship recipient at ANU studying a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery (MChD). 

I always wanted to study to become a doctor. However, for a long time it was not possible to make this a reality. I came to Australia at the age of 16 and had to overcome significant challenges, from basic survival to accessing education. 

My whole life felt as if I was in a car with no fuel, I was ready but I could not go anywhere. The scholarship was the fuel that made it possible to live while studying. 

I attended high school thanks to an amazing supporter that awarded me and 32 other refugees a scholarship. Now at ANU, a scholarship provides me the support I need to juggle life, study, help my family and community, and to rest a little bit when I need to. 

When you have gone through a traumatic experience, it feels like you lose years of your life. Despite best efforts, you struggle to form connections and find cultural support. Your self-esteem suffers. A scholarship allowed me to reclaim those lost years. 

The fellow refugees I studied with have become software engineers, nurses, and lawyers, who now have the power to support their communities and families. I am pursuing my dream of becoming a doctor and conducting research towards becoming a neurosurgeon.

Extenuating Circumstances Application (ECA) | Supporting Coursework Study  

ECA is a new initiative that supports coursework students where extenuating circumstances have impacted their learning experience. Accepted grounds for an ECA will in most instances be previously unknown and unavoidable incidents that have a demonstrable and significant impact on a student's ability to study or to undertake an assessment item.     

ECA requests will be lodged by students via ISIS (the previous Special Consideration and Deferred Examination – SCADE - eForm will be retired).  

ECA will go-live for Semester 2 2023 study.

Seeking Input - Research Infrastructure Survey 

ANU is developing an ambitious strategy to support research infrastructure at a whole-of-university level.

One of the lead architects of the Indigenous Voice to Parliament proposal, Professor Tom Calma AO, will deliver the 2023 ANU Reconciliation Lecture.  

As Australians prepare to vote later this year on whether to enshrine an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice in the Constitution, Professor Calma’s address is timely. 

This year’s lecture is held in partnership with the University of Canberra, and the recipient of the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Reconciliation will be announced on the evening.
