ANU community rallies to support students in residences
As semester one kicked off, ANU saw a number of positive COVID-19 cases in our on campus student residences. As soon as cases were confirmed, the University was quick to take action to support any resident who tested positive for COVID to self-isolate safely on the ANU campus, as well as ensure they received the ongoing care they needed.
A team of professional staff from across the campus and dedicated teams from across our halls and lodges also came together to provide meals and other essential items to self-isolating students each day. Senior residents and other student leaders were also quick to play their part and help. |

Your mental health matters
After being away so long you might feel a sense of sadness or grief at having ‘missed out’ on the typical university experience, ANU mental health expert Dr Lou Farrer says. She offers some tips on how you can maintain good mental health as you transition back to campus, and where to reach out if you need more help. Lou is the project lead of the Uni Virtual Clinic-Lite, a study providing university students with access to information and tools to help with their mental health.

A window to our past
Economist Ross Garnaut has been a central figure in developing Australia's international economic relations within Asia and the Pacific, especially China. This 1985 photograph depicts former Prime Minister Bob Hawke with the then General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, Hu Yaobang. Ross, then the Prime Minister’s senior economic advisor, is also in the photograph. The group was photographed in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, which became a central source of iron ore for Chinese industries since the 1980s. Ross' connection with the ANU began with a Bachelor of Arts (1967) and then a PhD (1972). He is currently the Chairman of the China Economy Program at the Crawford School of Public Policy.
