🚀 Innovation and big thinking

A new international research consortium led by ANU will work to improve communication in healthcare, which cause hundreds of thousands of avoidable critical incidents in Australia alone each year. In addition to existing issues, the consortium is also addressing COVID-related communication problems, from misinformation to vaccine hesitancy.

A new seed-funding initiative - which enhances connections between ANU academics and Australian policymakers - is sprouting fresh opportunities and bearing fruit.

How can we meaningfully integrate diversity and inclusion into career fairs? On 20 August 2020, ANU co-delivered the first-ever National Diversity Careers Fair to showcase the importance of workplace diversity and inclusion.

How can we reduce ANU contributions to climate change, encompassing how we travel, behave, use energy, what we buy and how we make decisions at an institutional level? 🍎 Food for thought

Demand for fruit and veggie boxes has soared because of COVID-19, but a PhD researcher has found the benefits of some fresh produce schemes extend beyond the convenience of skipping supermarket queues: it seems the humble fruit and veggie box can make you feel, well, happier.

The Pacific has the lowest rate of women in parliament. Dr Kerryn Baker is trying to change that. Read about Dr Baker’s work highlighting the importance and value of having more women in Pacific parliaments.

Dr Sainsbury, who lectures at the ANU, has picked up the inaugural National Luminary Award at the 2020 Art Music Awards - scooping one of classical music's top honours. He was recognised for founding and driving the "critically important" Ngarra-Burria: First Nations Composers program.

KAS Australia in partnership with the ANU Centre for European Studies will be presenting the 4th Konrad Adenauer Lecture to be delivered by ANU Chancellor The Hon Julie Bishop on Multilateralism and Regional Cooperation in Times of Global Crises: Australia and Europe and the International Order.

On 6, 13, 20 and 27 October the School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet) will host four virtual events (Data, Virus, Corporations, Complexity) examining the role regulation and governance can play in navigating these uncertain times.

What does it mean to “decolonize” the university or to “decolonize” research? In this webinar, the Humanities Research Centre will present a range of views on decolonization from across the sciences and the humanities, focusing on local and global challenges to prevailing academic practices.

Kinship terminologies - the patterns of words languages have for denoting and referring to family members - are a striking opportunity for understanding the interplay of culture, language, and cognition. Presented by the School of Culture, History and Langauge (CHL), this talk will feature Professor Fiona Jordan who will describe the VariKin project, a multidisciplinary approach to understand the patterned variation in human kinship systems.
