A window to our past
Professor Dale Trendall, the first Master of University House, was a classical art historian. He collected this ancient Greek cup (pictured) while travelling in Europe during the 1950s, later presenting it to the University.

The cup, featuring young athletes at practice, was made in Athens around 530 BC, where it was probably used as a drinking vessel at the men-only symposia that were a feature of aristocratic life. University House adopted this cup as its symbol in 1979.
