Tuesday 31 August

From the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student and University Experience)

Earlier today the Chief Minister extended the ACT lockdown until 17 September.

This means your work or study arrangements won’t change until after the teaching break, and decisions about what ‘essential work’ has to be done on campus will continue to be made locally.

It also means we can use the teaching break to consider how our operations will look in the second half of the semester. Any decisions we make will take into the account the ongoing disruption to many of our lives while schools and childcare are impacted.

When the time comes, we can expect what the Chief Minister has previously described as a “gentle” easing of restrictions. We won’t be going back to how life was at the start of August for some time and I think we can expect some degree of remote work and study to continue for the rest of the year – the extent of this will depend on rates of transmission, the speed of the vaccine roll out and the needs of local areas.

We’ll update you when we know more. Stay safe and keep up the great work.
