Hanno builds a solid innings
I would just like to say thank you to the donors for supporting me over the past year.
Hanno Jacobs started playing cricket from an early age.
"I was probably six years old, when my dad introduced me to a bat and a ball. Since then, I haven't looked back",says Hanno.
The 2020 ANU Cricket Club Scholarship recipient has played in two Under-19 National Championships and also in tournaments in India and the UK. As a skilled bowler who can also bat, he enjoys winning games for his team.
"I love cricket because you can turn any game around just by yourself - either with the ball by taking multiple wickets in quick succession, or with the bat by making a big score for your team."
"I also love the game because I have met some of my closest mates while playing."
Hanno is studying a Bachelor of Actuarial Studies at ANU. Having moved from South Australia, he now lives on campus.
"I wanted to move away from home to study. I chose ANU due to the brilliant learning facilities here and its great reputation among universities in Australia. And the ANU Cricket Club was an obvious choice for playing cricket here in Canberra."
The ANU Cricket Club Scholarship is helping Hanno develop as a cricketer in more ways than one.
"The scholarship helps me focus on my cricket by giving me incentives to play with such a great team at the club. It has also given me a chance to develop my coaching skills with the ANU Cricket Club Master and Junior Blasters every Friday afternoon."
Hanno feels grateful for the scholarship, as it is helping him make the most of his time at ANU.
"My ANU journey will give me the skills required for my life beyond university. These skills could set me up for a career in an actuarial institution or open me up to some other rewarding experience."
"I would just like to say thank you to the donors for supporting me over the past year. Given everything going on in the world right now, your support has given me the opportunity to grow as an individual. I am extremely thankful for that."
