A picture perfect landscape
The birds, the kangaroos, the wildlife. It's such a beautiful place and it's such an obvious place to take photos of.
ANU staff member PETER MEUSBURGER is at home in the stunning scenery around Canberra, as he tells ANU Reporter.
Off to Canberra's south and west lays a mountain range many locals resonate with but few actually visit.
The Brindabella Range towers over Canberra and provides city dwellers with stunning visuals. But for Peter Meusburger, it's almost a second home.
Meusburger - who works at ANU in the Facilities and Services Division - spends most weekends hiking and exploring the rough, yet beautiful, terrain of the Brindabellas, and he loves every second.
"It's an amazing feeling being up there in a place where very few humans go," he says.
"It's such a peaceful place. From up in the Brindabellas, there are only a few landmarks in Canberra that you can see. The tall tower in Woden, Lake Burley Griffin and the ANU Heavy Ion Accelerator are the ones that stand out. Everything else is a sea of trees."
Meusburger combines his enthusiasm of exploring and camping with a love of photography. His images of the wildlife and the scenery of the Brindabella National Park and nearby Namadgi National Park have been published widely.
The above photo was taken at Smoker's Flat, in the Namadgi National Park, after a heavy snow fall.
He is also a regular visitor to Kosciuszko National Park in the Snowy Mountains to Canberra's south.
"People from Canberra and Sydney head to the Snowys for the skiing but there's so much more to see," Meusburger says.
"The birds, the kangaroos, the wildlife. It's such a beautiful place and it's such an obvious place to take photos of. The scenery really speaks for itself."
