New residential halls for ANU
We will ensure that the new Bruce Hall and its sister hall offer a student experience without peer, setting a new standard in student accommodation in Australia and one that its future alumni look back on with the fondest memories.
In early April 2017, demolition commenced on the Bruce Hall site. In keeping with the project timeline, the two new residences will be completed for the beginning of the 2019 academic year.
The new residences represent an ambition to create the finest on-campus student communities in Australia.
The collegiate-style residences will each house approximately 400 ANU students in the heart of the campus. The new halls will provide students with one of the world's best experiences of living on-campus.
Bruce Hall has set the standard for many years in what constitutes the model for Australian student accommodation - its close, tight-knit community, its warm and inviting communal spaces, its outstanding pastoral care and services. These are just a few of the many Bruce Hall elements we are seeking to retain and where possible improve in the new accommodation.
The ambition of the University is to ensure a continuation of the unique Bruce Hall culture, heritage and legacies in the new Bruce Hall. ANU is committed to preserving the exceptional experience of living at Bruce Hall and has made assurances that the iconic furniture will be retained and the dining room and social spaces will remain as focal points to bring people together in a community culture.
The Bruce community transitioned into the new residential block 'SA5' at the beginning of 2017. With a mix of returning and new students, the community is integrating Bruce traditions and culture as well as exploring new opportunities that the building has to offer. The existing pastoral care model has been maintained as closely as possible and will continue throughout this transition period and into the new Bruce Hall.
We will ensure that the new Bruce Hall and its sister hall offer a student experience without peer, setting a new standard in student accommodation in Australia and one that its future alumni look back on with the fondest memories.
