Peter Yu on ANU
The ANU is moving beyond the rhetoric and providing real meaning to National Reconciliation with the nation's first peoples. As the leading university in the country and one of the top 20 universities in the world we are manifestly delivering significant reforms in diversity and opportunity for First Australians, ensuring we are equitably engaged across the spectrum of ANU life, from its continuing commitment to achievement in academic excellence, teaching, management and through to representation on Council.
As a pre-eminent national institution the ANU continues to build a creative and robust architecture around responding and positioning the First Peoples aspirations and expectations towards a more inclusive and reconciled nation.
The ANU is well positioned in facilitating the strategic and creative pathways for inquiry and for challenging the status quo in policy and other development initiatives associated with first peoples participation in the 21st century, acknowledging and giving due respect to the importance of sustaining and continuing resilience of our cultural beliefs, systems, practices and societal values, but at the same time allowing for a greater inquiry into the meaning and purposefulness of modernity in this ever changing technological and modern century.
The ANU is a key contributor in this important nation building exercise.
Mr Peter Yu is a Yawuru Man from Broome in the Kimberley region in North West Australia with over 35 years experience in Indigenous development and advocacy in the Kimberley and at the state, national and international level. He is also a Council member of ANU Council.
