ANU Kitchen Garden continues to flourish in 2024!
"The new people I've met, the new skills I'm learning and the amount of encouragement and freedom we get to evolve the garden and cooking sessions." “Getting to talk to people I would otherwise have never met; learning about gardening and food practices
Since its commencement in semester 1, 2022 the Kitchen Garden program (KGP) has facilitated weekly gardening, cooking and regenerative farming skill development sessions for students in the community garden during and in between semesters on campus. The sessions are run in a flexible, drop-in style allowing students to participate as often, and as much, as they want to.
Through facilitated sessions students and staff build connections with one another and with nature, along with the confidence and capacity to grow from seed, harvest, prepare and share nutritious, organic food grown using regenerative practices. The program creates opportunities for students to take an experiential learning journey to work together, build connections and learn skills for life in a friendly, community garden environment. The Kitchen Garden program was the first ever recipient of the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Sustainability in 2023.
The ANU Kitchen Garden program (KGP) was awarded a Green Gown Award for Student Engagement in 2023. Through winning this award the program has automatically gone through as a finalist to the 2024 International Green Gown Awards.
A list of all stage 2 finalists is available from the International Green Gown Awards website. The winners and highly commended entries will be announced in October.
