FAQ's: Learning Abroad Program Cancellations

10February, 2021 Notice - Following the continued advice from the Australian Government regarding COVID-19, the Australian National University has made the difficult decision to cancel all learning abroad programs for upcoming study sessions in 2021; this now includes Semester 1 and Semester 2 semester exchange as well as winter (June/July) short courses. There will be a further update about the 2021/2022 summer courses mid-year. 

We understand this is very disappointing news and may effect your study plan, however our team is here to work with you if you wish to seek alternative options. If you have further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us at global.programs@anu.edu.au  

Semester 1 & 2, 2021

In light of the continuation of COVID-19, the University has made the difficult decision to cancel Winter, S1 and S2 2021 learning abroad programs to all destinations.

The Global Programs team are deeply disappointed by the news, however, the wellbeing of our staff and students is always our highest priority

We have also put together a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) to assist you with some of your enquiries. Student exchange & study abroad

ANU has over 30 student exchange agreements with universities in Canada and the United States.

Internships & fellowships

NALO supports a number of undergraduate and post-graduate fellowship and internship programs.

  • The Washington Internship is an upper-level course offered by the Department of Political Science and International Relations at ANU, incorporating a seven-week internship in the United States Congress. The course offers students with a good background in American government and politics opportunity to experience political life in Washington by working in the offices of Members of Congress or on the staff of Congressional committees and then to complete a program of research on a specialised aspect of American government, politics, and public policy.
  • The Congressional Research Fellowship Program is an initiative that places young leaders from Australia's top universities in the offices of ranking specialists in foreign affairs in the United States Senate. Internship places are limited to students with a strong academic record who are considered future leaders in government, business or the community. The program targets honours and post-graduate students.
  • The ANU College of Law, in conjunction with the World Bank Group's Integrity Vice Presidency (INT), has developed the ANU Law World Bank Scholarship to support a current student of the ANU College of Law Bachelor of Laws (LLB), or Juris Doctor (JD) programs, to undertake a Fellowship with INT's Special Litigation Unit. The scholarship will go towards covering expenses while the student works as a fellow with the Special Litigation Unit at the World Bank's headquarters in Washington DC.
