How to Register

New Students

Students must be enrolled at the Australian National University (ANU) before they can register with Accessibility to develop a personalised Education Access Plan (EAP).

Accessibility is a free and confidential service that supports students within the ANU community whose participation in academic studies is impacted by physical and learning disabilities, mental health conditions, chronic medical conditions, and short-term illnesses/conditions. We also support Carers and Elite Athletes.

Our team of DisAbility and Equity Advisors provide advice, evidence-based support, and adjustments to minimise the impact on the student's academic studies. Accessibility helps students to participate fully in their program of study, be academically successful and achieve their personal best through the development of an Education Access Plan (EAP).

Accessibility recommends students get in touch with us as soon as possible if they require study adjustments or assistance. Providing information late may impact our capacity to facilitate an EAP in time to minimise the impact of your condition on your studies and/or exams.

Register with Accessibility

For the University to adjust a process, provide equipment, or make any other adjustments, the student must disclose the nature and extent of their disability or medical condition/s. This information will be kept private and will not appear on the student's academic record or transcript according to the ANU Privacy Policy.

Initial registration with Accessibility requires a consultation up to 50 minutes with a DisAbility and Equity Advisor (DEA) to discuss the student's circumstances and develop a personalised Education Access Plan (EAP), which outlines reasonable adjustments to support the student in achieving their personal best while studying at ANU.

Accessibility will then assess the nature and extent of the disability or medical condition/s and facilitate the provision of support. Students may request that their EAP be reviewed at any time.

Registration Process

Step 1 - Gather Required Supporting Documentation

Prepare your current medical documentation outlining your diagnosis, impact on studies and recommendations for reasonable adjustments. Required medical documentation is outlined on this page.

You may ask a qualified health professional to complete the Health Practitioner Report (HPR)(PDF,154KB) If you have medical documentation which is no older than 2 years, you may submit this for consideration.

Step 2 - Create a Student Access Portal Account

  • Create an account in the Student Access Portal.
  • Fill out the request form with the relevant details ensuring that they match the university records and click Submit.
  • You will receive a verification email with a link to verify your account.
  • Please click on the link provided in the email to verify.
  • Once verified successfully, you will receive an email on how to log into your Student Access Portal.

Note:

  • If any details in your initial registration are incorrect, you will receive an email from Accessibility asking you to re-register using the correct information.
  • Please also kindly check your spam or junk email folder for the email to access the Student Access Portal.

Step 3 - Submit a Registration Form through the Access Portal

  • Log into the Student Access Portal.
  • Click on the My Support drop-down option on the left pane and select Registration Form.
  • Provide all the relevant details, such as the purpose of your registration, disability/ medical condition/s, and what type of adjustments you require, and submit the form.
  • After submitting the Registration Form, click on the My Support drop-down option on the left pane and select My Documents.
  • Under the My Documents tab, click on Add New Accessibility Document to upload your supporting documentation.

Note:

  • Access to the Student Access Portal is Single-Sign-On (SSO) enabled, which means if you are within the ANU environment and have previously logged into an ANU system, you do not need to enter your username/password details again. Simply click on the SSO option on the entry page.
  • If you are transitioning from a Secondary/High School and have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or similar documentation on additional learning needs, please also upload this documentation under the My Documents tab.

Step 4 - Appointment with the Disability and Equity Advisor (DEA) to Develop a Personalised Education Access Plan (EAP)

After a successful registration, appointment details will be provided based on the availability indicated in the Registration Form and can be viewed in the Student Access Portal.

The registration appointment must be attended to complete the registration process.
